MJ Standup Korean, also known as, Dr. Mina Cheon, performing under the comedic stage name MJ, is a New York-based Korean-American comedian, professor emerita, and globally recognized "Polipop" (Political Pop) artist. Her highly unique comedy style blends sharp art history jokes, message-driven political satire, and dark and edgy romantic comedy that playfully explores Asian stereotypes, global geopolitics, and "Korean shame." Merging the worlds of visual art and standup, her highest performance credits include her acclaimed solo touring showcase MJ's Hour: K-Comedy Art Activism at institutions like Whitman College, as well as performing in and producing major peace-building cultural events for the AHL Foundation, KODA NY, and the series Stand Up NY Presents: K-Comedy with Friends. As a scholar and creative visionary who has mounted major retrospectives and authored books like Shamanism + Cyberspace, she uses her platform to beautifully bridge the gap between socio-political activism and the healing power of laughter. She is the producer of Global K-Comedy Productions and a part of the Stand Up NY team, the Chief Talent Curator and Head of Creative Programming.

MJ loves producing comedy shows and lifting other comics. Comedy Content: Korean identity, divorced, 52, dating online, art history jokes, geopolitics, global peace Comedy Style: observational, satiric, dark romantic comedy, message-driven, once a professor, always professing You are either born a comic, like you are born an artist, or not... it just is. Always knew about being an artist, happy to learn -- was also a comic... Being an artist and being a comedian, it's the same thing -- the work is about artistic exploration and creative process. You can make art or make comedy; both involve writing, original thinking, ideation, creativity, imagination, production, presentation, performance, and public reach... both artists and comics are truth-sayers and healers of our time. Artists do it with a paint brush, comics do it with words, whether you make or say, it's original ideas coming out, "spit it out!"
